Woburn/Winchester Whole Foods

Directions to

Whole Foods on the Woburn/Winchester Line

Whole Foods and Starbucks, situated close by each other, are the latest upscale additions to Woburn Plaza. Fortunately they share a parking area designed by forward planners anticipating a large business volume, thus assuring, at least for the moment, plenty of empty parking spaces for Adventurers seeking to explore the backside of Horn Pond Mountain, Winchester's out-of-the way Sucker Brook and Smith Pond conservation areas, or Woburn's stunning (and hard to find) Shaker Glen.  Here's how to get there:

From Route 128/95

Drive to Exit 33A, Route 3 south (Cambridge Street), and head toward Winchester. This is a fairly busy road, frequently interrupted by stop lights; please be patient. That's the bad news; the good is, it's a straight shot to Whole Foods/Starbucks, which are almost exactly on the Woburn/Winchester line. At about 1.6 miles from 128/95 you'll descend to, and then pass through, a complicated multi-light intersection in Woburn known as "The Four Corners". Climb out the other side and continue past the point where the road becomes a divided highway and, about a mile from "The Corners", look for Starbucks and Whole Foods on the left. Just as the median strip begins to evaporate, turn left and drive into the Whole Foods parking lot.  Look for us in the vicinity of Starbucks, not far from the highway.

If you should miss this turn, no need to panic, you'll soon spot Bonnell Ford (on the left) and, if you press on, the Mahoney's nursery complex (on the right). Turn around at one of these places and motor back to us.

Route 128 avoidance 101: From Lexington and points south

No need to risk travel on 128/95, just find your way to Maple Street/Route 2A and take it toward Winchester. Cross over Lowell Street at the lights and climb Winchester Drive. Continue along it even as its name changes to Johnson Road (at the Winchester line) and it descends precipitously to the lights at Route 3 (Cambridge Street). Turn left at these lights and drive past Mahoney's Nursery (on the left) and Bonnell Ford (on the right) to the parking lot entrance. Bonnell is the key landmark here; Whole Foods is a very short distance beyond it.

Route 128 avoidance 102: From Stoneham and points north

Drive to the intersection of Route 28 and Marble Street, then take Marble Street toward Winchester. As you cross over Route 93 Marble becomes Forest Street; no matter, continue straight along it, descending a little over 0.9 miles to Washington Street. Turn left on Washington Street and drive another 1.1 miles to the lights at Route 38. Turn right here and continue past Winchester's high school and under the MBTA tracks to the stop lights at Main Street. Cross straight through them to Lake Street (look, don't blame us; in a block or two Lake changes its name to Palmer Street). In about 0.6 miles you'll arrive at a four-way stop. Turn right here onto Wildwood Street and stick with it as it makes a ninety-degree left. Before long you'll come to the lights at Route 3/Cambridge Street. Turn right, go past Mahoney's and (just barely past) Bonnell Ford to the parking lot entrance.

Route 128 avoidance 103: From Burlington

Most straightforward option: Take Route 3A to 128/95, cross under it, and follow the From 128 directions given above. Less straightforward: Winn Street under 128 to Mountain Road, right on Mountain Road, left on Burlington Street, right on Willow, and finally right on Lexington Street. At the Four Corners go left on Route 3A and pick up the From 128 route.
