Directions to
Winchester's Stop and Shop
695 Main Street, Winchester, MA
Stop and Shop is, for those who’re used to starting from Ginn Field, a nearby alternative with the advantages of pre-ride facilities and post-ride shopping. The plan is to park in as unobtrusive a portion of the parking lot as we can find and hope that our potential commerce makes us welcome.
To get there …
From Route 128/95
Drive to Exit 34 (Winn Street), take it, and, if northbound, turn right onto Winn Street when you reach the lights at the bottom of the off ramp; folks coming south on 128/95 must turn left onto Winn Street and duck back under 128. Either way, from 128 continue about 2 miles to the mini-rotary in downtown Woburn. Things get a little tricky here. The objective is to drive counterclockwise around the rotary but, to do this means turning right (Pleasant St), then immediately left (Common St), then (again almost immediately) right at the lights onto Route 38 (Main Street). If/when you get this far you’re basically home free. Just continue along Route 38 into Winchester about 1.8 miles to the lights at Main Street’s intersection with Skillings Road/Lake Street. Stop and Shop is just ahead on you, on the left. You can enter the parking from either Main Street or Skillings.
From Burlington
Find Winn Street in whatever way’s easiest and follow the directions above.
From Lexington
Unless you live close to 128/95 (and perhaps even if you do), a faster route is to take Maple Street toward Winchester, cross straight over Lowell Road at the lights, climb up Winchester Drive, and drop down the other side of the hill (where the road changes its name to Johnson Road) to the lights at Route 3. Turn right, then left at the next set of lights (Church Street), and continue to the rotary where Church Street ducks under the MBTA tracks and joins Main Street (Route 38). Zip around the rotary to Main Street, turn right, and continue a long block to the Stop and Shop. It’ll be on your right.
From points north of Winchester
Sneaking down from Route 28 via Marble Street/Forest Street is a quick way to get to Winchester from Stoneham and points north. Once in Winchester, drive Forest Street to the lights at its intersection with Washington Street, and turn left, proceeding toward downtown. When you reach the lights at Skillings Road, turn right, drive past the High School and under the MBTA tracks to the Stop and Shop on your left.
*** GOOD LUCK!!! ***
