Bedford's Super Stop and Shop

The Stop and Shop's huge, easy-to-get-lost-in parking lot borders the Shawsheen River and is within easy striking distance of several open spaces and conservation areas along or near the Bedford/Lexington line. For veterans of our Depot Park starts, getting there should induce a sense of deja vu; the two are only about a mile apart, as measured along the Minuteman Bikeway. To get there either consult a suburban atlas or MapQuest for the best route to "337 great road" in Bedford, or, if you're a risk taker, try this:

From Route 128/95

Exit at 31B and merge onto Route 225 toward Bedford. Drive west 1.1 miles on Route 225 (becomes the Great Road) through the lights at Hartwell Avenue, Shawsheen Road, to those at the Great Road Shopping Center, home of the Stop and Shop. Turn left into the shopping center, drive to its extreme left hand side, and park near the supermarket. Although you'll have to look hard to see it, this ought to put you within spitting distance of the Shawsheen.

Alternatives to Route 128

From Burlington or Concord, take Route 62 to downtown Bedford.  Once it reaches Bedford from these origination points, Route 62 intersects the Great Road (Route 225) at different points; coming from Concord turn right, from Burlington left when you get to 225. This will result in your driving east toward Lexington about a half mile (Burlington) or a mile (Concord) to the lights at the Great Road Shopping Center. Turn right into it and drive to the far left hand corner. That, roughly speaking, is where we'll be waiting. 

From Lexington, take Bedford Street over 128 and follow the "From 128/95" directions.

From Westford and other points west

Drive Route 225 east through the Carlisle rotary and over the Concord River to Route 4 in Bedford. At 9:00 in the morning there may still be a delay at this intersection as Route 4 commuters from Chelmsford and Billerica, attempting to circumvent Route 3, merge with those from Carlisle. Plan on a few minutes extra just in case. Follow the combined Routes 4 and 225 east (staying left when Route 62 joins this highway potpourri) through the stop light at South Road and two more to those at the Great Road Shopping Center. Turn right into the Center and drive to its far left hand corner. Park.
