Seasons Four

Directions to

Lexington's Seasons Four Nursery

If you're familiar with Lexington's National Heritage Museum, you'll have no trouble finding Seasons Four; it's located just off Massachusetts Avenue about a block west (toward downtown) of the Museum. The directions supplied below are adapted from our guidelines for finding the Museum by adding or subtracting the block, as appropriate. But what, you ask, IS Seasons Four? Here, lifted from CitySearch's website, is Allison Fisher's take on it: "Located in the heart of historical Lexington, Seasons Four spans more than ten acres and includes a glass conservatory for growing tropical and unusual plants. Their beautifully landscaped displays inspire a world of possibilities for one's own garden. Since its inception in 1970, Seasons Four has been expanding; today it features a vast showroom for outdoor furniture, barbecue grills and other backyard accessories". It also features a commercial grade parking lot and frontage on the Minuteman Bikeway. To get there:

From Route 128/95

Take the Route 4S/Route 225E exit (Exit 31A) toward Lexington; this is Bedford Street. Continue on Bedford Street about 1.5 miles to its intersection with Massachusetts Avenue at the Minuteman statue, and then bear left toward Arlington on Mass Ave another mile. At this point, turn left into the Seasons Four entrance way, which runs along the western boundary of Tower Park (a wide open grassy space on the left) and crosses the Minuteman Bikeway just before debouching into the parking area. Please choose a spot whose probability of impacting commercial operations is minimal.

From Winchester

From Route 3A, climb Johnson Road toward Lexington (becomes Winchester Drive in Lexington) and stay with it over the hill to its intersection with the Middlesex Turnpike. Cross over the Turnpike; thanks to the vagaries of Massachusetts street naming, even though you’ve gone straight through the intersection, Winchester Drive is a thing of the past; you're now on Maple Street/Route 2A. Take Maple 'til it intersects Massachusetts Avenue and forces a decision; turn left or turn right. Turn right and drive toward Lexington Center. Keep going straight when, at the first left, 2A breaks away from Mass Avenue and climbs to the History Museum. Simultaneously, or almost simultaneously, Tower Park will appear on the right hand side. Drive to the end of it and turn right into the Seasons Four access road. Cross the Minuteman Bikeway (carefully, please!) and find an inconspicuous parking spot.

From other places

If it's convenient for you to come through Winchester on Johnson Road, follow the directions above. Route 128 haters living in or passing through Burlington might consider driving 3A to Woburn or Maple Streets and proceeding to Massachusetts Avenue on one of them.  The Wynn Street-Mountain Road-Willow Street-Lexington Street route through Woburn's Four Corners and hence to Woburn Street is another possibility subscribed to by artful dodgers. From the south there are multiple choices for those with a good mapset; our experience is that 128/95 north generally clear in the morning; but its condition at any given moment is readily checked by dialing *1 or visiting SmarTraveler.
