23 Yale Street, Winchester, MA 01890
Rose's House
By all accounts a classic party place, this recently renovated unit, located on a broad tree-lined way evocative of quintessential Americana, is your destination. To get there either ask MapQuest for the best route to "23 yale street" in "winchester" (MapQuest doesn't insist on capitalization, so why should we?) or plug this Yale Street address into your on-board GPS and do what it says. Have a high tolerance for risk? Try this (if in doing so, you become hopelessly lost, not to worry, just call the phone number at the bottom of this page for assistance):
From Route 128/95
Drive to Exit 33A, Route 3 south, and head toward Winchester. This is a fairly busy road, frequently interrupted by stop lights; please be patient. That's the bad news; the good is, it's almost a straight shot to Rose's house. At about 1.6 miles from 128/95 you'll descend to, and then pass through, a complicated multi-light intersection in Woburn known as "The Four Corners". Climb out the other side and continue past Woburn/Winchester's new Whole Foods store, Bonnell Ford (both on the left), and the Mahoney's nursery complex (on the right) to the stop light at Wildwood Street/Johnson Road (Wildwood left, Johnson Road right). This is the first light you'll encounter after leaving the Four Corners and should come at about 3.3 miles from 128/95. Turn left here onto Wildwood Street. Drive three blocks (past Salisbury Street and Wedgemeer Avenue) to Yale Street and turn right on it. Rose's house is a block and half down Yale on the left. Park at the nearest convenient curbside spot.
Route 128 avoidance 101: From Lexington and points south
No need to brave traffic on 128/95, just find your way to Maple Street/Route 2A and take it toward Winchester. Cross over Lowell Street at the lights and climb Winchester Drive. Continue along it even as its name changes to Johnson Road (at the Winchester line) and it descends precipitously to the lights at Route 3. Cross Route 3 to Wildwood Street and perform the terminal navigation maneuvers outlined above.
Route 128 avoidance 102: From Stoneham and points north
Drive to the intersection of Route 28 and Marble Street, then take Marble Street toward Winchester. As you cross over Route 93 Marble becomes Forest Street; no matter, continue straight along it, descending a little over 0.9 miles to Washington Street. Turn left on Washington Street and drive another 1.1 miles to the lights at Route 38. Turn right here and continue past Winchester's high school and under the MBTA tracks to the stop lights at Main Street. Cross straight through them to Lake Street (look, don't blame us; in a block or two Lake changes its name to Palmer Street). In about 0.6 miles you'll arrive at a four-way stop. Drive straight through this too, crossing over Wildwood Street to Fletcher Street in the process. Now you're getting close! Look for Laurel Street, then Copley Street, and finally Calumet Road, all on the right. They come very quickly. Turn right on Calumet Road and continue past Cabot and Oxford Streets to Yale Street. Turn right on Yale. Rose's house is a half-block ahead on the right.
Route 128 avoidance 103: From Burlington
Most straightforward option: Take Route 3A to 128/95, cross under it, and follow the From 128 directions given above. Less straightforward: Winn Street under 128 to Mountain Road, left on Burlington Street, right on Willow, and finally right on Lexington Street. At the Four Corners go left on Route 3A and pick up the From 128 route.
