Parking for Wakefield's Lake Quannapowitt

The south shore of Lake Quannapowitt, the big lake just inside Route 128/95 in Wakefield that's covered with sailboats in summer and the occasional iceboat in winter, is replete with stunning waterscapes, parks, and a few office buildings and motels too. One of the latter, the Lord Wakefield Best Western, features an expansive lakeside parking lot just a stone's throw from Route 128; it's an ideal spot from which to launch an exploration of the Lake and its environs. And it's also one the easiest of our starting points to find. Here's how.

From Route 128/95

Drive Route 128/95 to Exit 39, North Avenue, toward Wakefield and Melrose. North Avenue lies at the foot of the exit ramp; go east on it (that's roughly in the direction of downtown Boston). The Lord Wakefield is just ahead (0.1 miles) on the left; you'll probably see it as soon as you leave Route 128, if not sooner. Turn left into the parking lot, drive toward the water, and park as close to it as you can. That's where we'll be.

Note

In most cases Route 128 northbound is usually clear in the morning and is probably the fastest and simplest way to get to the Lord Wakefield; for some the preferred means of commuting to 128 may be via Route 93. If you are one of these folks, remember when exiting 93 to go northeast on 128/95 for Wakefield rather than southwest toward Lexington. Finally, for those deeply suspicious of Route 128, there are back ways to get to North Avenue but, generally speaking, they take longer and involve greater risk of getting lost along the way than gritting your teeth and sticking with 128.
