Finding Kimball’s is easy for anyone who’s been to the Foss Farm Conservation Area … just keep going about another mile and a half until it pops up on the right. Kimball’s wide open parking lot, farm-animal “zoo”, and ICE CREAM (in season) make it a perfect jumping off point for a hike over little-used trails into the back side of the Great Brook State Farm and for rides heading out toward Westford and the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. To get there …

From Route 95/128

Drive to Exit 31B in Lexington (Route 225/Bedford) and go west on 225 (becomes 225/4/62) toward, and through, Bedford Center. When you’re almost through Bedford, Route 62 splits left for Concord (don’t take it!) and just a little bit later 225 also splits left toward Carlisle (DO take it!!). Route 4 proceeds straight ahead here, toward Chelmsford (Don’t take it!). Kimball’s Farm is 3.5 miles west of the point where Routes 4 and 225 part ways. If, as you’re on your way to Carlisle, you zero your trip odometer at the exact center of the Concord River as you cross over it, 1.7 miles later you’ll arrive at Kimball’s parking lot, on the right. The travel time from Route 128 is, roughly, 25 minutes.

From Burlington

Cross to Bedford on Route 62, go right on 225 when they intersect, and follow 225 as above.

From Winchester

Take Johnson Road (becomes Maple Street at the intersection with the Middlesex Turnpike) straight to 225 (Massachusetts Avenue) in Lexington. Turn right, turn right again at the Minuteman statue, and follow 225 into Bedford. Estimated travel time, 40 minutes.

From Lexington

Take Massachusetts Avenue west, go right at the Minuteman statue, and follow 225 into Bedford. Estimated travel time, 30 minutes.
