Westford’s Jack Walsh Playing Fields

The extensive set of playing fields bearing the name “Jack Walsh” abuts Route 225 (Concord Road/Carlisle Road) and Griffin Road in southeast Westford. The Fields are served by two parking areas, one directly accessible from Route 225 (it’s here that a sign identifying the Fields is situated) and a second off Griffin Road.  Choose the second, the Griffin Road lot; starting here eliminates the need for bicycles to compete with high speed traffic on Route 225

For those willing to gamble on our directions, here they are:

From Route 128/95

Take Exit 31 from 128/95 for Route 225 westbound; drive 225 through Bedford where, 2.7 miles from Route 128/95, Route 225 splits away from Route 4 at a Volkswagen dealership and heads west, over the Concord River, to Carlisle Center. Continue west from Carlisle Center another 3.8 miles to Jack Walsh Field (on the right) and just past it, to Griffin Road, also on the right. At Griffin Road, go right and proceed along it to the back parking lot, entered from a dirt road on the right. This is the scenic ... and most direct ... route. If traffic is light (yeah, sure) the travel time from Route 128 to the Field is about 25 minutes, according to MapQuest.

Alternatively, one can drive west on Route 2 to 495, take 495 north to Exit 32, get off on Boston Road eastbound for Carlisle, cross Route 110, and proceed from there as if your starting point were Westford’s Town Hall, see below. We don’t recommend trying this.

From Westford’s Town Hall

Drive southeast on Boston Road to Route 110, continuing straight across at the lights (where Boston Road changes its name to Carlisle Road) for another 1.26 miles to the stop sign at Route 225. Turn left on 225 and go 0.17 miles to Griffin Road, the first road on the left; if you miss it on the first try, turn around at the Jack Walsh sign and come back. Once on Griffin Road, go a short distance to the back lot, as above. Estimated driving time: 12 minutes.

From Route 495

Take Exit 32 for Boston Road east toward Carlisle, cross Route 110, and proceed from there as if your starting point were Westford’s Town Hall.
