Directions to

Parking for the Battle Road’s Hartwell Tavern

Finding your way to the historic Hartwell Tavern is very much the same as driving to the Minuteman Park’s Visitors Center; all that’s needed is to continue past the Center on Route 2A about 1.3 miles if coming from the east (Route 128) or stop short of it by the same distance if coming from the west. Look for a prominent “Parking” sign directing those outbound from Route 128 to the right and those inbound toward 128 to the left.

What follows is, with the exception of the 1.3 miles, verbatim from our Visitor’s Center directions, less the introductory stuff.

From Lexington

Take Massachusetts Avenue from downtown, over 128/95, to its intersection with Route 2A. Turn right on 2A and drive past Minuteman High another 1.8 miles or so to the Hartwell Tavern parking lot. It’s on the right, prominently marked. Drive in and find a good spot. “Facilities” are available here.

Or ….

Take 2A from downtown, cross over 128/95 and continue along 2A to the Tavern Center.

 From Route 128/95

Make your way to Route 128/95, get on it going toward Lexington, and drive to Exit 30B. Signage preceding your arrival at the exit alerts you to take 30B variously for Minuteman High, Concord, and Route 2A. Get off at Exit 30B; get on Route 2A westbound and drive it, past Minuteman High, another 1.8 miles or so to the Tavern’s parking lot. It’s on the right, prominently marked. Drive in the access road and find a good spot. “Facilities” are available here.

From points west

Drive Route 2 east, through the Concord rotary, past Emerson Hospital, to the lights at the “Concord Turnpike Cutoff Bypass Road,” the primary access road from Route 2 to Route 2A (Route 2 makes a sharp right here; maneuver into the left lane for the Bypass towards 2A). Take the Cutoff to its intersection with Route 2A, bearing right there and continuing east toward Lincoln and Lexington on 2A. From the intersection, the Tavern is about 0.8 miles down the road, on the left. “Facilities” are available here.

Yet another option

Take Route 225 to Bedford Center, then Route 62 toward Concord. When Route 62 forks at the Pine Tree Farm, take the left branch (Old Bedford Road) and drive to its intersection with Route 2A. Turn left here, and continue on 2A roughly 1.7 miles to the Tavern’s parking lot, on the left.
