Parking for Weston's Drabbington Way Baseball Field

Located at the head of Drabbington Way, a quiet suburban road off Route 117 not far from Route 128/95, is a parking lot which now serves a Little League ball field, but was once the place to park for skiers braving the slopes of Weston's defunct Cat Rock ski area. Our cut at directions to this parking lot are given below; as always, consider checking a suburban atlas, quizzing MapQuest, or asking your GPS system for a better/faster route.

From Route 128/95

Looking at a map it would seem the best, if not the best by far, route from most starting points is to exit 128/95 at Route 117 and drive the short distance to Drabbington Way. NOT SO, because it's the devil's own job to get onto Route 117 from 128/95 (something which requires zig-zagging aimlessly about in Waltham at constant peril of missing a turn). We recommend instead exiting 128 at Winter Street (Exit 27), driving west a short way to the lights at West Street, then turning left and taking West Street/Lexington Street (another of those roads with two names, West Street in Waltham and Lexington Street in Weston) to 117. At 117 turn right, drive about a quarter mile (past Marshall Way) to Drabbington Way, and turn right onto it as well. Continue all the way to the end.

Alternatively

For the 128-averse driving south toward Weston, Lincoln Road is a potentially less frustrating alternative. There are several ways to do this. The first step in all of them is to find the five-way intersection where Bedford Road, Trapelo Road, Sandy Pond Road, Weston Road, and Lincoln Road all come together. Here's how:

Take Route 2A (Exit 30b from 128/95) and drive 1.7 miles to Bedford Road. Turn left onto Bedford Road, climb 0.8 miles to the lights at Route 2, then go straight across and continue a little over a mile to the five-way intersection.

Take Route 2 (Exit 29b from 128/95) westward for 2.2 miles to the lights at Bedford Road.  Turn left and continue a little over a mile to the five-way intersection.

Take Trapelo Road (Exit 28b from 128/95) westward for 2.5 miles to the five-way intersection.

Having reached this intersection from 2A or 2, go straight through it; from Trapelo Road, turn left. Either way, this puts you on Lincoln Road. Drive 1.6 miles on Lincoln Road, over the MBTA tracks, to Codman Road. Turn left on Codman Road, continue a short distance to Route 117, and turn left there too. Continue 3.1 miles on 117 to Drabbington Way, turn left onto it, and drive to the parking lot at its end.

From Wayland's Town Hall

Take Route 20 east into Weston about 2.4 miles until it forks, the Boston Post Road going left and 20 going right to bypass downtown Weston. Go left on the Post Road, through downtown, past the Town Hall to Church Street; bear left onto Church Street when the Post Road forks (the right branch rejoins Route 20) and drive about 1.3 miles to the intersection of Church Street and Route 117. At 117 turn left and proceed about a tenth of a mile to Drabbington Way (on the right just after Marshall Way) and follow it to the parking lot.

From Weston's Town Hall

Drive Church Street to Route 117 and proceed from there as above.
