Parking for Cutler Park

Situated just east of Route 128/95 in Needham, this 700 acre MDC Park "comprises the largest remaining fresh water marsh on the middle Charles River … the marsh and small lake (Kendrick Lake) attract over a hundred species of birds, making the Park a prime spot for nature study." It's also a prime spot for walking (and riding!), even if there's nary a bird to be seen or heard. Basically flat but with just enough geology to lend flavor and punctuated by trans-marsh boardwalks providing the quintessential up-close-and-personal wetlands experience, the Park's maze of trails is easily enough to keep a dedicated hiker or cyclist busy for hours.  On the other hand, for those not planning to, or not interested in, exploring the Charles' flood plain, the Park is a natural jumping off point for rides to Nahanton and Millenium Parks, Mount Ida College, and the Brooks Farm.

To get there either ask MapQuest (www.mapquest.com) for driving directions to "1000 Nahanton Street" in "Newton Center" at Zip code "02459" (ask for a map instead of driving directions and MapQuest produces one with a big red star smack in the middle of the Charles River, a spitting distance east of Cutler Park) or take a chance on the following:

From Route 128/95

Drive 128/95 to Exit 19B (Highland Avenue toward Needham), take it, and continue about 0.1 miles to the first stop light. Turn left here; this is Hunting Road. Proceed roughly 0.6 miles to another stop light, the first one you’ll come to after making the left onto Hunting Road, and turn left again.  This is (take our word for it) Kendrick Street, though we offer a prize for the first of you to spot a road sign saying so. Continue about 0.3 miles on Kendrick, over Route 128/95, to Cutler Park on the right. It's prominently marked and features a capacious parking area.

From the intersection of Routes 3 and 128/95 to Highland Avenue is about 14 miles; MapQuest estimates a driving time from Burlington to Cutler Park of 25 minutes. In our experience, this is about right on a clear fall Sunday afternoon.

!!! Good Luck !!!
