Carlisle Cranberry Bog

Directions to

Great Brook State Farm's Cranberry Bog

Carlisle's Great Brook Park, with its miles of trails, its "zoo", its ice cream parlor, and its Cranberry Bog (the northernmost operating Cranberry Bog in Massachusetts) is a Mecca for hikers, cross country skiers, and off-road cyclists, in short, a fine place to spend an afternoon, start a bike ride, or initiate a walk. The Farm features several parking areas, two of which are "real" ones (the ski touring center on Lowell Road and another at the Interpretive Center/Ice Cream Parlor) and a third consisting of a series of pullouts at the Bog proper. We'll launch from these pullouts.

For driving directions try MapQuest or your in-vehicle GPS, dialing in the coordinates given at the bottom of this page. If you're a diehard who's willing to chance our directions, try these:

From Route 128/95

Get off 128/95 at Exit 31 and take Route 225 west through Bedford to Carlisle Center. At the Carlisle rotary (marked by a statue of a lachrymose woman, right arm raised in salute to her war dead), turn right past Fern's convenience store onto Lowell Street and drive it roughly two miles to the “Ice Cream” sign at the Farm’s North Road entrance. Turn left there onto Curve Street. Continue along Curve Street, climbing and then descending a little hill, until after 0.8 miles you spot the Bog on the right and begin to find pullouts dotted along the way. Choose one of these or continue all the way to the "Bog House" (about a quarter mile further along) where there's a lot which holds about a half dozen vehicles. This Bog House is our starting point.

*** Good Luck !!! ***
