Directions to
The Buttrick Mansion, the Old North Bridge Visitor's Center
Know how to find parking for the Old North Bridge? Then you're almost home free; the Buttrick Mansion is just across the Bridge and up the hill. It's easily found by taking either Routes 62 or 2A to the rotary/obelisk in Concord Center, going 'round and 'round until you spot the Colonial Inn, then choosing either Lowell Road (left of the Inn) or Monument Street (to the right) and driving over the Concord River. If you picked Lowell Road, turn right onto Liberty Street after crossing the River and climb to the Mansion (on the right); from Monument Street, cross the River, turn left onto Liberty and climb to the Mansion (on the left).
If you don't trust us (and why should you!), get directions from MapQuest; otherwise try this:
From Route 128/95
Take Exit 29 for Route 2 west toward Concord. Drive about four miles to the lights where Route 2 bends sharply left and the Cambridge Turnpike continues straight ahead. Go straight, take the Turnpike, and continue along it 1.3 miles to its intersection with Route 2A (Lexington Street), and turn left toward Concord. Drive 2A to the downtown rotary (marked by an obelisk, the Colonial Inn, and a collection of churches) and through it, slanting right onto Monument Street at the Inn or continuing in front of the Inn and THEN right onto Lowell Road. Either choice soon takes you over the Concord River where you will, almost immediately, find Liberty Street (on the right if you've opted for Lowell Road, on the left if Monument Street (much more scenic because it passes some by classic homes and the Old North Bridge) was the choice. Turn and climb Liberty Street to the parking lot.
MapQuest estimates the driving time (exclusive of the disembarkation process) from Route 128 is about 20 minutes.
From Lincoln, Wayland, and parts of Weston too
Avoid Route 128 like the plague; instead, take Route 126 to downtown Concord and the Colonial Inn rotary, then out Monument Street to the North Bridge, as above.
From Lexington, Burlington, and maybe Winchester too
Because traffic in Concord Center can be pretty horrendous in the early morning, try circumventing it this way: take Route 225 west from Bedford and, shortly after crossing the Concord River, turn left onto Skelton Road. Follow Skelton a quarter mile or so to the stop sign at its intersection with River Road. Turn left on River Road. Stay on it as it wends its way past horse farms, climbs a hill where a castle's been erected on the right, descends and, just before crossing the Concord River, intersects Liberty Street. Go right on Liberty Street and climb to the Visitor's Center.
Or, hop on Route 2A (Marrett Road) in Lexington and continue on it all the way to the Colonial Rotary, then take Monument Street or Lowell Road (your pick as above) to Liberty Street, and climb it to the Center.
!!! Good Luck !!!
